Cover

The cover forms an insulating and moisture-regulating layer around the watermattress.
According to your taste and needs, you can choose a cover with a wool filling or an anti-allergic filling. The cover is easily removed (no zips or Velcro) and either washed or dry-cleaned depending on what it is made of.
The washable types for mattress widths from 120 cm also come in a two-piece version with a zip down the middle. This lets you put them in a standard 5-kg capacity washing machine.
In addition, most TTI makes have models with a upper layer in extra-comfortable cotton stretch fabric or firm Belgian damask.

Watermattress

PVC film

The PVC film used for the watermattress is produced exclusively for TTI and is the result of close collaboration during the development phase. The film contains no cadmium or other heavy metal and meets all European standards.

Mattress types

For all makes, TTI offers a choice of 2 mattress types that differ in the shape of the upper surface. The choice is a matter of personal taste and has to do with a difference in ‘lie’:
- a smooth mattress gives a firmer, somewhat harder lie.
- a mattress with a stretch pattern gives a comfortable, somewhat softer lie.
Both types have their fans among those who sleep on waterbeds. We recommend you to try them both out at your waterbed dealer’s.

Mattress models

As well as different mattress types there are also different models:

Dual

The two parts of a DUAL watermattress are separated by an unnoticeable insulation wall.

Stabilisation

TTI uses thermally bonded polyester fibres for stabilisation. This fibre structure is very much stronger than that used in other makes of watermattress and guarantees a longer life. The fibres are treated to make them mould resistant. The number of layers of fibres determines the level of stabilisation.
We offer a wide range of stabilisation levels: from those producing a pleasant after movement to those producing total stability.
Which stabilisation level suits you best just depends on what you want. Heavier people usually benefit more from stronger stabilisation. If you opt for lower stabilisation then we recommend a smooth mattress.
We would also like to comment that different waterbed manufacturers employ different scales or units when indicating their stabilisation. So, there is no point in making comparisons between them. Only trying them out and the dealer’s experience can help you choose; he/she will be happy to assist in this.

Extra pelvic support

TTI offers the option of an extra pelvic support, which can improve your lying position yet further, whether you lie on your back, side or front. People built more heavily around the hips benefit in particular from this. Pelvic support also acts progressively: the heavier you are the greater the effect. In addition, it does not hinder the sense of “sleeping afloat”. Even with this extra support you still get that wonderful feeling that only a waterbed can provide.

Dimensions

It’s best to have as big a waterbed as possible. A certain volume of water is needed to support the body optimally. The body displaces water in the mattress and this needs to distribute itself over as great a volume as possible. Our watermattresses have a depth of 21 cm.
A 200-cm waterbed has a water core of just 190 cm. Therefore a waterbed should be at least 10 cm longer and 10 cm wider than a classical mattress. To make this attractive for you, all our waterbeds are the same price whether they are 200 cm or 210 cm long.
For DUAL mattresses, we recommend a minimum width of 180 cm.
TTI offers a wide range of standard sizes: depending on the make and type, these run from 90x190 cm to 280x240 cm in steps of 10 or 20 cm. In addition, we offer customisation at no extra cost for all intermediate sizes for if you want to install it into an existing bedstead or put it between cupboards and/or walls.
For sizes bigger than 280x240 cm, please contact us or a TTI dealer for exclusive custom-construction.

Safety liner

The safety liner is made of PVC film. It covers the whole of the inner side of the waterbed and folds over the foam edges. It is intended to catch any leaks. Correct installation will prevent any possibility of water leaking out of the waterbed onto the floor.

Soft-side

Production

99% of the waterbeds manufactured by TTI are so-called soft-side waterbeds. The edges of the bed form a case that watermattress lies in. For all types, this soft-side edge is made up of two parts:
- the lower, fixed part consists of a plastic profile or a high-density foam rail, depending on the make and type;
- the upper soft part consists of a hinged foam rail. This ensures that no tension can arise on the cover surface, which in turn contributes to the feel of being ‘afloat’ and also ensure a high degree of comfort on getting into and out of the bed.

Corner

The upper hinged foam rail also ensures that a waterbed is as easy to make as a traditional bed.

The foam edges on our soft-sides are made up polyether foam of a specially controlled composition. They are manufactured without CFKs.

Colours

We manufacture the various makes and types in a variety of soft-side shapes and a variety of finishes: you can choose from a wide range of fabrics and artificial leathers. This means that the waterbed can fit in with any interior and personal taste.

Base plate

The base plate forms the base of the bed. Depending on the make and type of waterbed, this consists of 2 or 4 parts.

Heating element

TTI uses the Kanthal heating element produced by the Swedish firm of CALESCO. This low-radiation heating element was chosen in particular because of its reliability and long life. It excels in safety and can be very accurately set.
The electronically controlled Kanthal heating element is fitted with a double fuse. The heat sensor inside the element itself ensures reliable control.
The thermostat is easy to get at, and the temperature setting is easy to read.

Heater

The Kanthal heating element is a standard on the European waterbed market. It is the only one of its kind with a child lock

What temperature?

The heating has to be switched on all year. It consumes less electricity in the summer, of course.
The right setting depends on personal taste. It can be stated that for optimal comfort, the temperature should be set at the external temperature of our skin. In practice, this is ~28ºC. This provides comfortable warmth in the winter and pleasant coolness in the summer (however contradictory this might seem for the summer)
Depending on the temperature in the bedroom, some waterbed users opt for a somewhat higher temperature in the winter.

Base

The whole waterbed rests on the base. This consists of:

Both plinths and bases are manufactured at TTI from top quality laminated chipboard. The plates used meet the E1 emissions standards for formaldehyde.

Base

A sealing strip (optional) prevents cleaning water getting into the base.
A non absorbent material was chosen for the support cross beams.

A base fitted with drawers provides
extra storage space.

Dimensions

The total height of the bed is determined by the height of the base. TTI supplies a standard height base of 22 or 27 cm for most makes. This produces a lying height (top of mattress) of 48 or 53 cm. All base heights between 10 and 32 cm in steps of 1 cm are available, however, at no extra charge.

If you want to install the waterbed into an existing bedstead, the sizes can be adjusted so that the base fits onto any support components in the bedstead. The height of the base is modified so that the tuck-in edge of the soft-side just fits under the edge of the bedstead.
